Hello all,
I'm interested in cases like this as a teaching opportunity.
However one compiles such a list (and the method of doing so is another
opportunity for teaching), it seems that the question is rarely asked (in
the media) if the differences between the alternatives are significant.
After all, if one ranks any entities on any variable criteria, some entity
will be at the top of the list, without the necessity that this is
meaningful. I seem to recall that more "mentally ill" people are born in
February than any other month; naturally, if one does this ranking by month,
*some* month has to come out on top, even if the process is random.
Any ideas for how best to use this in a class would be appreciated.
