At work, I have several old psychology texts. My oldest one is date
1849 (I think - definitely sometime in the forties). Anyway, it does
pre-date psychology as a science. I can look up the exact working later
if needed but it refers to psychology as the study of the soul. Of
course, my texts from the turn of the century tend to refer to the study
of consciousness.
Again, if folks would like, I can pull the old texts of the shelf, brush
off the dust, and provide exact quotes and references.
