Er, Lynne . . .
I think you need to learn to read attributions a bit better. You just
thanked Larry for his post and wrote me privately to express offense at
mine.
Here's what Larry said:
====================================
I think lots of us should PRIVATELY write to this charming PhD
and tell her what we think of her using our list to distribute
her spam; so thoughtful of her --- surely she had only our
students' best interests in mind. And let's not take up any
more list space to talk about it.
====================================
And here's what I replied:
=====================================
In other words, you want people to mail bomb an active, participating,
member of this list for "daring" to post a message that invites members to
participate in a _free_ activity to their benefit?
Shall we likewise mail bomb those who post notices of seminars, APA
meetings, educational resources, and other tools for our use?
Let's keep responses to public list messages PUBLIC, Larry, not private.
That's what a list is for, and it's considered very crude to suggest mail
bombing someone to express our displeasure with a post. If someone has
something to say about her post--positive OR negative--it should be said
in an open forum where other list members are permitted to form a personal
opinion of the respondant based on the content of the message, not behind
the backs of the list members so that the sender can maintain a false
image of decency.
=======================================
Larry slammed you sarcastically for "spamming" the list and I defended
your post as being a positive and appropriate one. Are you _sure_ you want
to thank him for his post and take offense at mine?
Oops . . .
Rick
