Hi there Tipsters,
I am trying to put together a proposal for the management of our
animal facility, and wondered if others out there might help with some
comparative information. If you can, I would be most grateful for the
following information:

1. What is the nature of your institution?

Public 4 year Public w/ grad programs Private 4 year

Private w/ grad programs Other

2. What is the size of your institution? In terms of undergraduate
enrollment?

3. Is your current animal facility a separate entity, or housed under
one department (ex. Psychology, Biology)? If housed under one dept.,
what department is that?

4. How is the budget for the facility managed? Is it a line in a dept.'s
budget? Does the facility have its own budget?

5. Is there permanent staff? If so, how many staff members and at what
level of hiring? Are any staff members AALAS accredited? What is the
nature of compensation for animal care staff?

6. Is the facility AALAS accredited? Does it meet NIH standards for animal
care?

7. Do any researchers using the facility have federal grants to do animal
work?

8. What kinds of animals are maintained? For how long are they
maintained? (Year-long? Just for one semester? Etc.)

9. How are instructional use and/or research animals supported? Do users
pay a per diem for animals?

I am most grateful to anyone who can provide me with this information, and who
might be willing to be contacted by phone for more details.

Thanks!
