Greetings,
I'm trying to find a CD that I can use in my first year psych class that engages
students in lab-type exercises. I know that there are a wealth of CD's and WWW sites
out there, but they tend to be linked to a text, and don't offer what I'm looking for.
What I'm looking for is something that is made up exclusively of lab/prac exercises.
My idea is that students could do the exercises in their own time, and bring their
results along to the tute class, where they could be pooled and discussed with the
other students. There is one that I know of called PsychSim, but it's not terribly
sophisticated. There was an Australian one called Psyche: Experiments that Changed
Psychology, but that seems to be unavailable commercially. These can be really good,
because they permit students to participate in ecologically valid studies, based on
classic experiments. The Psyche CD had a great Stroop experiment, and a brilliant
rendering of Sperling's sensory memory study. I also know that some WWW sites are
using Java to do this sort of stuff as well (I know of a cognitive psych site at
Purdue), but these require a fair bit of Web muscle.
TIA
John
