My two (s)cents:

Although I am not familiar with the criminology, I would also suggest that the perp be 
someone who the participants do not know.  If they are asked question about a student 
with whom they have been interacting with, are they more likely to i.d. the perp and 
recall the details than if a stranger was the prep?
