Okay, let's say that people are striving for meaning in their life. Why are
they doing this? My guess is that by achieving the sense of meaning they
are reducing their anxiety and uncertainty about life. The sense of meaning
gives us a purpose. The lack of meaning (or purpose) creates anxiety that
we strive to reduce.
So, in my mind the two are just opposite sides of the same coin. If you are
running away from one thing, you have to be heading towards something (and
vice-versa).
