Strangely enough, one of the best students I've taught actually had this
happen. Her new puppy had an "accident" on her final paper for the course
the morning that it was due. She was a few minutes late turning it in and
offered to bring in the old copy if I wanted it as proof of what had
happened. I decided to just accept the late assignment...
