Colleagues,
Our Psychology Department is considering changing our major
requirements from separate stat and methods courses to one combined
course. If anyone out there with some time who teaches a combined
methods/stat course could give me some information on the specifics of how
it is organized, I would appreciate it. There are a couple of issues in
particular that we are concerned about. First, in any given semester, we
often have more students enrolled in stat than in methods (because of
available personnel, etc). Second, we have a lot of transfer students,
some of whom start in the Spring semester (which is problematic if the
combined methods/stat course is a year-long course), and some of whom
already have a stat course. I personally don't think either of these are
serious problems, but some in the department do. So if anyone has
addressed these specific issues, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks in advance,
Cindy Miller
