    Bill,

If it will help at all, I can provide you a moderate speed (1M) site for TIPS during the interim. I have list servers for over 40 lists (mostly low traffic) running now and one more certainly wouldn't hurt. It's not a traditional listserv environment, but it takes the basic listserv commands and would work as a stop-gap for the list during the transition. The site isn't really suited to an academic list, it's one I created both for my research and to provide support resources for a number of groups, and it's still in the process of creation (official "online" date is September 1 although it's running now)--but if people can put up with the list running on a non-academic machine with a domain name like "lovestyles.org" I'll be more than glad to donate the resources (including web space if you need it). You would, of course, be set up as list owner while it was on the system.

Let me know if I can help,

    Rick

Subject: The Future of TIPS ? Please Read and pass on

TIPSters,

Since its beginning on June 1, 1992, TIPS has been run on our Vax computer system using freeware written for this operating environment.  As of July 1, 2001, Frostburg State University (FSU) will no longer be maintaining our maintenance contract for the Vax system.  Instead, FSU will be using various computer workstations and microcomputers to run its various programs. Our Academic Computing Department (ACD) is in the process of evaluating various software programs that could be used to run a listserver like TIPS, however, this evaluation process is not complete and I am not sure when it will be. However, at some point, TIPS will be operated using different software that will lead to some changes in how TIPS operates. What does this mean for TIPS?
