I was channel surfing and came across a short film on the Turner Classic Movie (TCM) channel. I came in on a scene where a dog was being given a visual discrimination task which made me wonder what the hell kind of film was this. I checked on the TCM website and found that it was a 1941 Oscar winning short titled "Of Pups and Puzzles". It actually is about the role of testing in personnel selection but it has a number of scenes from quasi-experimental situations. The film is listed on the Internet Movie DataBase; see:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033969/ Of particular note is a segment that has a chimpanzee using a stick to get to a bunch of bananas that are hung high above him. It's not clear who the chimp or person in the white lab coat is but it does seem similar to some of Kohler work with chimps. A short clip of this scene (it leaves out the lead-in) is available on Google video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2984238121446044538# Anyone familiar with this film? By the way, if you go to the TCM website, you can vote to have this film made available on video/dvd; see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=401545 -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
