I hate whiteboards. The markers are messy, smelly, and disappear because
students take them to use as inhalants. I have become lightheaded using them in
poorly ventilated rooms. Thus, they are more expensive, and here in CA, that's
not a good thing either (we are about to cancel our summers session due to
budget issues.)

Chalk, if it gets on you, can be brushed off. Marker is expensive and sometimes
impossible to remove from clothing.

People use the wrong markers on the board and permanently damage them. It's
much harder to damage a chalkboard.

Whiteboards and the markers one must use on them may be the future, but if so,
the future really sucks, IMO.

White boards because of the following: chalk dust. Chalk dust on the hands is
nnoying, but wash and moisturize and no big deal. Chalk dust gets in computer
nd projector systems in the rooms and they degrade much more quickly. White
oards are the future because of that alone, IMO.

i Everyone,
I am seeking your opinions, but mostly your experience and knowledge of
esearch around the usage of greenboards (blackboards) vs whiteboards.
My VP Academic has asked me to prepare a proposal to replace all
xisting blackboards with whiteboards and I would like to include data
n that document. I would also like to know what other institutions have
one around this issue.
All I can say here is that already, I am looking at very strong opinions
n the part of faculty (who all seem to lean towards the greenboards).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Jean-Marc
