We don't have a credit system here at LVC, but in my lab, I break students up
into teams of 3-4 individuals (I usually have about 3 teams each semester),
with one student appointed as the team leader. The entire lab meets 1x every
other week (I pick up some pizzas and soda for lunch), and we discuss a variety
of research-related issues pertaining to all of the ongoing work (experiment
design, data collection/analysis, professional presentation etc.) in our lab.
The students do the bulk of the work on all the project, as the experience is
WAY more formative for them than me at this stage of my career. When it comes
time to head to a conference, that team leader is the senior author on the
poster, and they are responsible for getting everyone else to work together to
complete the finished product. I oversee all this, providing feedback when
asked/needed.

Cheers,

Lou

Subject: Re: [tips] Research groups for credit?

Claudia asks some great questions that I would like to have answers for as well.
Is there anyone out there that has been working with this kind of setup. I
have also wondered
if people would be willing to share how they have their research labs setup and
working.
