Actually therapy addiction can be as American as apple pie.
There is a socio-cultural aspect that underlies any type of addiction in the
U.S. Keep in mind that what we mean by the "pursuit of happiness" has special
dynamics in the U.S. Americans appear to be obsessed with self-improvement
because we seem to be constantly
bombarded and reminded of how inadequate we are unless we upgrade to what is
being advertised on TV and other media sources.
We at times become our own deceptive analyst by seeing problems where no
problem might actually exist. We at times fail to recognize that existence could
be cyclical and being edgy could be expected.
I have known folks who never saw a therapy that they did not like.
Contributing to our addiction are U.S cultural aspects towards
boredom, and pain and discomfort. When we are bored we may conclude that there
is something wrong with us,and we particularly like to rush for a pill at the
first signs of pain and discomfort, and we condition our children to do the
same.In fact being bored or feeling pain is natural-no remedies may be
required.Whether it is therapy addiction or drug addiction, the common thread is
the attribution
that a specific modality will provide healing. The U.S may be a freedom society
except ,ironically,freedom from addictions(physical,psychological,social).

me recommend a book titled THE PLEASURE SEEKERS by Joel Forte.
