Dear Michael S,

I understand that it is a Saturday night and, if your spelling is any
indication, it is customary for some people to have some beverages
with their activities (for example, I am having a brewski or two
while watching the NY Yankees beat the Orioles -- though the
game is not over and things could change). Even so, would it
be too much to ask of you if before you asked questions such
as you have above, you do a simple Google search or check
Wikipedia (yada-yada)? If you did, then you find that there
is a Wikipedia entry on Bernard of Chartres (see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_of_Chartres
NOTE: Bernard of Chartres is not a Saint;
And here is an the entry for the quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_on_the_shoulders_of_giants

There is no mention of Trappists in either entry and the Wikipedia
entry on Trappist has no mention of Bernard of Chartres:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trappists

St. Bernard of Clairvaux has nothing to do with Bernard of Chartres
though he was involved with the Trappists; see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_of_Clairvaux

As for the monks of Chartreuse, they do not make wine but a
liqueur which come in at least two forms: yellow chartreuse (80 proof)
and green chartreuse (110 proof).  For the monks, see;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grande_Chartreuse
For the Liqueur see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartreuse_%28liqueur%29
The liqueur green chartreuse has a very distinctive taste (not
surprisingly given that it contains extracts from 132 plants
as well as being 55% alcohol). One should not confuse it with
wine though it does have a wine alcohol base. It is an acquired
taste and is relativelyly expensive.

Expect to get a bill for my research activities on your behalf
via snail mail. I'm now going back to my game and brewski
and you can go back to whatever. Good night,
