Susan Reverby, who previously has written on the Tuskegee syphilis study, reports on research conducted in the 1940s in Guatemala where U.S. medical researchers infected people with gonorrhea and syphillis without their knowledge or permission. Today (Friday, Oct 1, 2010), Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sevelious apologized for the actions of the U.S. Public Health Service. MSNBC provides a report and video on this; see: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39456324/ns/health-sexual_health/?ocid=twitter
Reverby's departmental website which contains a draft copy of her research report can be accessed here: http://www.wellesley.edu/WomenSt/fac_reverby.html Access to other articles by Reverby, especially on the Tuskegee is also available. -Mike Palij New York University [email protected] --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
