Of relevance to various areas of psychology (I'll let you figure out which)
are several news stories out today such at this one which is on the CNN
Health website:
http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/02/10/ep.conception.truths.myths/

Some parents try to have births on specific dates because the dates
are "cool", such as this year's 11/11/11. As the article above points
out, if a woman wants to give birth on that date, they better spend the
rest of TODAY getting busy with the egg fertilization process.
The article also reviews some myths and possible factors that might
facilitate the fertilization process.

Some myths include:
Easting sweet potatoes because they make the womb "plush" (a new one for me)
Watching porn to increase a man's sperm count (Hey! Can't hurt! ;-)
Sexual position (doesn't matter but remaining horizontal for a while
after sex might be helpful; optional for guys)

Some things to consider, mainly for guys:
Make sure "Dad" doesn't keep the laptop computer on their laptop (keep
the scrotal temp down)
Wearing boxers instead of brief (again a scrotal temp thing)
Acupuncture for infertile women -- quoting the article:

|Some studies -- but not all -- show acupuncture might help infertile women.
|Even if it doesn't, it couldn't hurt.

Wait, being poked with a bunch of needles doesn't hurt? Really?
And what about if you're needle phobic?

Anyway, anyone wanting to maximize having a child birth on 11/11/11,
they need to get down and make busy with the fertilizing. The article
points out that the next time for a 11/11/11 birthday will be 100 years
but fails to mention that next year one can aim for 12/12/12. If today
doesn't work out, one can prepare for next year.

I'm sure y'all will be able to work into critical info into your psychology
courses.
