If history is any guide, God does that *ALOT*. It might/should make
one think when one hears "prophets" crying "rapture". I also think that
people who believe that all are children of God and as long as one lives
a good, compassionate, and ethical life one may still ascend to heaven
(it doesn't matter what you believe, so Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus,
etc, may still enter heaven). On the other hand, people who maintain
that there are two types of people in the world, namely, "believers" who
will automatically go to heaven and "non-believers" who will automatically
go to hell, are probably more concerned with ingroup/outgroup
distinctions and are more likely to believe in rapture/endtime issues.

Somebody should do a study on this.

P.S. In a world with billions of people, the faith of a few million probably
doesn't matter in the big scheme of things though those few million may
think it does.
