It is common  to assume that in  an article written by multiple authors the 
first author  is the lead person and is credited for propeling the research 
while the  second and third authors play subsidiary roles.I can see equitable 
contributory roles in the case of two authors,but where it involves  three and 
four authors one can wonder what exactly did author number  four do.Is  an 
honorable mention considered in tenure considerations?
