Chris and others:

Actually, in Canada we do have advanced placement courses in high
school, for which students are given credit at some universities . At
Wilfrid Laurier University for example, non-Psych majors can get a half
credit (equivalent to a one term course) in Psychology for AP "Challenge
and Change in Society" with a minimum grade of 4. That is lost, however,
if they take our Introduction to Psychology course.

No AP in Canada. And I must say I like it that way. You take college
courses in college. High school is an very different kind of institution
(we hope) and it is very hard to get students who have never known
anything but high school to suddenly start acting like they're in
college without any of the collegial context to support it. It's a bit
like trying to race on ordinary city streets. Either you drive like
everyone else, or someone's bound to get hurt.
