Marie, I don't have anything to contribute to your request other than to offer
my highest praise for the mission of this committee. Administrivia and,
particularly, work inequity amongst faculty are two of the biggest pet peeves
of my mine and of many of my colleagues. I sincerely hope that you will be able
to share with TIPS any generalizable recommendations that some of us can then
take to our institutions.

Subject: [tips] Reduce service workload and increase equity

Hi All

I am chairing a committee examining how our college (at an institutional level)
can reduce faculty service workload and/or reduce service workload inequity for
faculty. So we’re both interested in making service more fairly shared (service
= everything that is not teaching and research) but also just cut down on
unnecessary service and/or administrative trivia. So this is not just focused
on department level issues (although that is helpful as well) but methods that
would work across campus. Of course we already try to do that (in all kinds of
different ways) but we want to do more (so that we all have more time for
teaching and research).

So has your college made a specific change which you think actually reduced
faculty service workload and/or reduced service workload inequity for faculty.
What was it, how did it work, etc.

Thanks a bunch
