Thanks Dap for your info.I also was an admirer of JW especially
at that period when Behavior mod was big in the U.S.The idea of
"reciprocal inhibition" was great and led me to read more on Jacobson's
relaxing techniques.
On a different subject,I really have an admiration for that magistrate in the
Oscar Pistarius trial.This magistrate really
did some thorough research as he balanced the pros and cons.
His comparative contrast of the History of bail in England and
South Africa was very academic.Btw,is that Botha detective
related to characters in the apartheid era?
Are there similarities between juisprudence in Holland
and South Africa? I am going back to the Yoran Van de sloot
trial in Aruba.
Btw,did one of the Prime Ministers in SA died in a drowning accident? I only
remembered this as it was mentioned that this premier was a psychologist.Or
could have been Australia.

Joseph (Joe) Wolpe and Arnold (Arnie) Lazarus were both born, raised and
fully trained in South Africa. Both were at the same university in
Johannesburg. Wolpe went to the US and Lazarus followed.

I had the privilege of studying with both of them (in the US). On both an
academic and personal level I only have the greatest admiration for both of
them --- regardless of what their backgrounds were or any conflict between
them. And that is how I will always remember them.

  Take care

  Dap

Just as there was a parting between Neal Miller and Leo DiCara,
it would seem that there was some kind of split between Wolpe and Lazarus re
Systematic Desentitization.If I recall correctly,the
original text was co-authored by Lazarus and Wolpe, then subsequent editions
were authored by Wolpe only.Wolpe originated from South Africa. He was of Jewish
origin and I think
he collaborated with Lazarus at Temple U.If you know what happened between
those two,let me know.
  Send me something.
