Mike: It has always been my understanding that we are all comceived as female and differentiation is achieved through critical hormonal activity. Also note that there are some species that are all females,but there are no male only species.What is that saying "Ontogeny recapitulates sexology" or vice versa? Btw,the Supreme court of India has recognized "transgender" as a legitimate sexual orientation.This is not eurprising since masculinity and feminity are more synchronized in Indian philosophy,psychology, and culture.Check out the Karma Sutra.
