It should come as no surprise that some psychologists are,
well, odd, peculiar, and "special" in unusual ways. Many are
your typically mainstream, middle-class (bourgeoisie) folks
who tend to be plain vanilla in many tastes, polite (in contrast
to being "rude" or "honest"), and, well, boring. So it should
not come as a surprise when someone outside of the "guild" ;-)
comes across one of the "odd ones" and, well, draws attention
to them.

The odd one for today is William Moulton Marston, a Harvard
Ph.D. who was a student of Hugo Munsterberg though they
appear to have had a falling out, possibly over Marston's claim
that he created the "lie detector" which Hugo Munsterberg
apparently laid claim to (Ludy Benjamin appears to side with
Hugo). But that's not Marston's claim to "fame", rather, it is
his creation of the female superhero "Wonder Woman". And
even this is not what makes Marston special or weird, it's...
well, you'll have to read for yourself. Jill Lepore wrote an
article about Marston in the September 2014 "New Yorker",
probably in anticipation of the upcoming Wonder Woman
movie; see:
http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/09/22/last-amazon
Ms. Lepore has also published about Marston and how Wonder
Woman came to be which available on Amazon and other outlets:

Just goes to show that a Ph.D. in psychology doesn't have to rely
on academia to become "famous" (or "infamous") but John Watson
already taught us that. ;-)
