Dear Colleagues,

We are looking for contributors as we finalize our book proposal, Telling
Stories: The Art and Science of Storytelling as an Instructional Strategy,
edited by Karen Brakke and Jeremy Ashton Houska. This book is an extension of
some of the themes we uncovered while part of the STP Task Force on Story.

The book will investigate the various approaches to and formats of Story within
instruction, and their underlying theoretical foundations. Empirical evidence
of learning outcomes from the differing forms and applications of Story will
also be included. These will comprise the two sections of the edited book
(i.e., theoretical rationale for Story, the empirical evidence on Story).
Chapters will be between 3,000 and 4,000 words.

This edited book aims to be interdisciplinary, and provide instructors
practical ways to implement and assess the use of Story in their teaching.
Additionally, the book will provide empirical evidence for Story as well as
potential avenues for future research.

Proposals for theoretical and empirical chapters may address one of the
following topics, but are certainly not limited to: digital storytelling,
visual stories, data-based narratives, case studies as narratives, use of
narratives instead of textbooks, storytelling as lecturing, using aspects of
Story to teach scholarly writing, scientific narratives, comprehension of
stories, and memory for story information.

We seek to enlist contributors in the areas of psychology, education, cognitive
science, neuroscience, nursing, social work, and related disciplines. Our
timeline allows us to accept inquiries and proposals until January 3, 2015.

Please contact us if you might be interested in contributing.

Best,

Karen & Jeremy
