So, today, March 20, 2015 is approximately the vernal equinox which
is interpreted by people in the northern hemispheres as the start of spring
(for additional info about the equinox and related matters, see the
Wikipedia entry on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox
NOTE: some think that this is the day when number of hours of sunlight
equals the number of darkness/night but this is dependent upon local
factors, hence, an astronomical definition is used as indicated in the
Wiki entry).

So, if this is the start of spring, why the hell is NYC getting a snow storm?
See:
http://www.weather.com/storms/winter/news/winter-storm-ultima-northeast-spring-snow-forecast

All I can say is that I'm glad I don't live in Boston (not that they're
going to get any additional snow, I just don't like Boston ;-) Go Yankees! ;-)

And don't forget the "April Fool's Day Blizzard"; see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fool%27s_Day_Blizzard

For those of you in parts of the world that don't know about snow
(I'm looking at you SoCal), here's some images to remind you:
https://www.google.com/search?q=spring+snow+storms&num=100&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=2BkMVcuaFdHHsQS4pYGQBQ&ved=0CFEQsAQ&biw=1680&bih=859
Note: Since this is generated by google's image search engine, I can't
vouch that all images are "Safe for Work" (I scrolled pretty far down
and didn't find any nudes or similar stuff but one doesn't know what
google will produce when it scraps the bottom of the internet barrel).

So, for those schools that are having Spring Break (e.g., NYU),
go out and have some fun in what might be the last snow storm of
the year (please, no April snowstorms, okay G-d?). Or continue
to watch TV to see how unpredictable college basketball is. ;-)
Have a cold beverage while you're at it. ;-)
