Krys, I think the answers you've gotten so far haven't been very clear. Let me try to explain a bit. If you want to record to channels at a time, or record one channel while watching another, there are some ways of doing this:
One is, as has been noted, to get a TiVo that has a DirectTV receiver built into it. These units are sometimes called DirecTivo's because they are one unit that combine both a Tivo and a Satellite receiver. When you say you bought a DirectTV receiver and a 140-hour Tivo, I'm assuming they are actually separate boxes, right? If this is the case, then you will only be able to record one thing at a time, and you won't be able to watch LIVE TV and record LIVE TV (on a different channel) at the same time. The problem being that you only have one receiver to get the signal from the satellite and that receiver can only receive one channel at a time. There ARE other ways to do this, but they involve either getting yet another satellite receiver and paying an additional subscription fee of $5-10/month for it, or using your TiVo with a cableTV box and using some wiring techniques that honestly are probably too advanced for you at this point. By far the easiest and cheapest method is to return your DirectTV receiver and Tivo, and get one of the combo units. They are generally cheaper than the stand-alone TiVo's and DirectTV receivers, although they are missing some functionality which you may or may not care about (mainly features to hook your home computers up to your TiVo). If your DirectTV receiver is a high-definition receiver, however, and you want to continue to receive a high definition signal, unfortunately the only combo DirectTV receiver/TiVo units are very expensive - around $1000! But if you don't have/want high definition at the moment, the non-high-definition combo units can be had for as low as $100, maybe even less... Good luck!
