Mike, 90% of the time I know the title of the show I want to record. I go to "Pick Programs to Record" then "Search by Title".
If you're browsing in the guide and hit enter on a show that is currently on, the TiVo will switch to that channel to begin recording. If you hit enter on a future show and ask to record it, TiVo will stay on the channel you are watching.
