Once upon a time David Swagler shaped the electrons to say... > Can anyone speak to the software capabilities of the NDS receivers? > Eventually, the two dual receiver boxes we own will fail and I will > have to replace it. If the only choice, in the future, is the NDS > box, what will the software be like? Can anyone (Megazone?) speak to > this?
DirecTV claims they'll have the features of the DirecTiVo boxes - however, they also claim they don't violate any of TiVo's patents. I'm not sure how you get one without doing the other, since TiVo has some fundamental patents on their features. I haven't seen anything about the software yet aside from DTV propaganda. They had a very early version on display at CES2005, but it wasn't something people could play with to see how it worked. And since the boxes haven't shipped yet, I don't think anyone outside of DTV (or under NDA) has seen it in an environment where the capabilities can really be tested. The basic Season Pass style recordings I'm sure it has, most DVRs do. Wishlists, Suggestions, etc - can't say yet. -MZ -- <URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org> Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me.
