Actually they never said they'd have something in early 2005 - they
showed off a working prototype in January 2005, but they said it
wouldn't be out until 2006. Right now, and for a while, the timeframe
has been mid-2006.

No, it is that the market hasn't been there. Really, the HDTV market
is growing but it is still small. Plus the technology has only been
there since mid-summer - CableCARD is required to handle cable HD, and
it didn't roll out until summer. And CableCARD 1.0 has a number of
issues, so TiVo is hoping to jump to CableCARD 2.0 - which is due in
2006.

There were a couple of ATSC-only DVRs on the market - and they bombed
and got killed. People just didn't seem to want DVRs that only did
OTA ATSC HDTV. And without CableCARD DVRs couldn't record digtial
cable, which means no HDTV on cable either. And with the market still
being small, there hasn't been the economics needed to justify
engineering and selling a box. Now things are coming together, and in
2006 there will be two HD TiVos - the standalone CableCARD system and
the TiVo software for the Motorola 6412 cable HD DVR.
