Hello folks,

I purchased an 80-hour Series 2 Tivo (TCD540080) in January and enjoy
it very much. It has essentially replaced two VCRs, but because I
like to record certain shows at the same time, I am searching for
another TiVo.

I have lurked on this list for some weeks, and have seen that there
are quite a few knowledgable people subscribed. I wonder if anybody
would be willing to tackle my queries.

Question one:

While looking on eBay, I see various model numbers and don't know how
to decode them. I realize that the last two digits (in my case 80)
indicate the number of hours, but what about the previous digits?

For example: if I see an auction for a TCD240040, it's a 40-hour
unit, but what does the "24" tell me? Is there a chart or other
reference where I could look it up?

The front of the "24" unit looks a little different from the front
of my "54" unit. I don't care about cosmetics, but I do care that
I could be losing features without knowing it, but I have not been
able to find any information about this on the TiVo page. (Clearly
it is not to their benefit to provide information about anything
other than brand-new products.)

Question two:

At one point in one auction, someone mentioned that his unit had the
conflict resolution software, or words to that effect. Mine tells
me when I've asked it to record something and it senses a conflict
in recording times, then offers solutions.

Are there previous versions that did not let you know? You just find
out when your program doesn't get recorded?

I hope these questions are general enough that answers on the list
will be appropriate, but if you want to reply directly, please do.
Thank you.
