All that "save to vcr" does is start the recording with a 10 second textual display of the program description followed by the program. It also attempts to protect the recording process by showing a small "warning" icon in the lower corner the first time you attempt to interrupt play.
No you can't watch another TiVo program during a "save to vcr" session.
