Hello all,

I got my first TiVo (TCD540080) in January, and my second Tivo
(TCD240080) shortly thereafter (!).

After keeping up with the list (except for those times when
Yahoo!Groups inexplicably "bounces" messages) and having used
the two boxes extensively, I thought I knew just about
everything I needed to know, and am a very happy camper!

But I've stumbled onto a problem that I cannot solve, and I
would like to know if either (a) there _is_ a solution, or
(b) if I just have to live with it.

I told TiVo that I would like to record "all episodes" and
"first run" episodes of The Tonight Show.  It does that just
fine.

Unfortunately, from 2:05 until 3:04 a.m., it often records
a rerun from last week that NBC calls "NBC ALL NIGHT." [1]

Sometimes it does _not_ record that program, but sometimes it
does.  I think it has to do with whether NBC has provided TiVo
with a description of _which_ episode they are re-running,
and if TiVo recognizes it as having been on the to do list
within 28 days, it does not record that program.  But if there
is no description, it seems to record the program.

Early this morning, for example, they re-ran an episode with
Ron Howard, which I had already seen, but the information/
description was generic: "Jay Leno interviews celebrities and
hosts musical performances."

Here is where it's a problem: while it is simple to "delete"
the program, which is what I normally do, I can't be here to
delete programs while I'm traveling.  And if I'm traveling
for two weeks, there is a potential for the box to record
ten hours of programs that I don't really want recorded, and
I might miss something that I want to record.

(Yes, I know I could use a lesser quality of recording, but
I'm already using "medium" which seems to work nicely, giving
me 51 hours of space.)

So far my only solution is to sit down the night before I
leave, go to "Season Pass" for that program, and tell it not
to record those "last week" reruns.

Does anybody know of a way to prevent the reruns from being
recorded?

I am prepared for the answer to be, "no."  And that will be
okay, because in the overall sceme of things, it's just
television.

oh, no, did I actually say those words? <g>

[1] Curiously, first run shows take 62 minutes, while "last
week" reruns take only 59 minutes.  Can you say "commercials"?
I knew you could.
