Thank you very much for your reply!

  A few follow up questions..

Is it possible that the drive is mostly okay and there is only a glich in it
since it does at least attmept to boot? (gets as far as the 'almost there, just
a few mintues more') I have a lot of stuff on the HD that I would love to try
and save..

Also, when I bought the Tivo, (it already had an upgraded HD) I was also
given a burned DVD titled "TiVo Backup images" is this the Tivo software, or is
that something else?

  Thanks again!

If your drive has died then your options are going to be limited. To
answer
some of your questions

Any hard drive will work however it must have the TiVo system software on
it. If you current drive is dead getting that software will be your biggest
problem. It used to be available on the net but tiVo forced it to be
removed. It can be found, but takes some work.

As for moving your programs again if the drive was in good shape then yes.
Since your drive has died it might not be possible.

So you have two options
1) You can buy a new drive and use the software utilities available (
www.mfslive.com is the best IMO) and see if you can copy enough off the
drive for it to work. I recently did this for a friend and worked fine
however his drive had not compltely died. He was having lockups and stuff
like that and so we were able to copy stuff off before the drive completely
died
2) You can buy a drive preloaded with the TiVo software from
www.weaknees.com. This would be my reccomendation. I think you will spend
too much time trying to recover something from your current drive and it
might just be easier to just buy a new one.
