Are you buying another DirecTiVo - the integrated TiVo and DirecTV
receiver - or a standalone TiVo?

The R10 was the last of the DirecTiVos - the latest and greatest,
except for the HR10-250, which was the HD model.

The R10 uses the same software as all the other second-generation
DirecTiVos. There are also some first-generation DirecTiVos, and they
use similar software, but with some of the later features missing.

If you buy a standalone TiVo, then any Series2 (or Series3) will have
software which is basically a super-set of the software on the R10.
Similar interface, just more features.

If you buy one of the really old Series1 boxes (S1 was dropped in
2002), then you'd have a similar UI but a lot fewer features.
