That can probably be worked around. A platform could be built that mounts to the sub-structure and carries above the tile. And if you have a chimney, it might be mounted to that. A pole could also be affixed to the side of the home, extending above the roofline, to carry the dish - which would not block your view. Basically there are a number of ways it can be handled, but it is beyond what an installer would normally do. > I have a Series 2 DirecTV TiVo with lifetime service that's suddenly become > a paperweight. Is there any chance TiVo will permit me to transfer my > lifetime service to Comcast if I run out and buy a Series 3 HD-DVR or a TiVo > HD? If you have the integrated DirecTV receiver with TiVo, aka DirecTiVo, officially, no. Lifetime for DirecTV is on the *account*, not the box. And you're technically a customer of DirecTV, not TiVo. Currently there is one lifetime transfer offer: http://www.tivolovers.com/2007/12/07/199-lifetime-transfer-offer-for-tivo-hd-extended-through-february-3-2008/ Some people have successfully transferred lifetime from DirecTV to a standalone TiVo, but that seems to be mostly a fluke since it is not officially supported. > Is the only difference between the series 3 and the TiVo HD the size of > the hard drive? The TiVo HD has a 160GB drive, the S3 has 250GB. The S3 comes with the nicer 'Glo' remote, the HD has the S2-style remote. The S3 has a nicer chassis with on-box controls and it has THX certification. There are some other differences, the S3 supports integration with Crestron home control systems, while the TiVo HD supports M-Card CableCARDs (and hence can use one card) while the S3 still needs two cards. http://www.tivolovers.com/a-review-of-the-tivo-series3-hd-digital-media-recorder/ http://www.tivolovers.com/a-review-of-the-tivo-hd-digital-media-recorder/ http://www.tivolovers.com/series3-faq/ > I've read that the series 3 has an eSATA port "for future > use." Is that likely to be useless, as have been the USB ports on my DirecTV > TiVo? The eSATA ports are already active. You can attach external eSATA drives to expand the storage. > Assuming I AM able to transfer the lifetime service agreement to a > Comcast-compatible TiVo box, what becomes of my existing TiVo box? Either way, you're free to sell the box. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.TiVoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
