I think I'll use Movica (free too) to edit the commercials out and clean up the
intro and exit of programs. I haven't yet used it on an .mpg that came from my
TiVo, but it worked fine on a .wmv I have here at work and purports to support
MPEGs. The link is below, as are the links for DirectShow Dump and DVDStyler
that didn't come through in my prior e-mail.

Please let me know if any of you find this useful and I will write up a How To
guide. I'll need to document this for my wife anyway. :)

is what I've done to archive two shows to DVD for playback on (hopefully!) any
DVD player.

 1. Transfer show to PC using TiVo To Go.
 2. Strip DRM from show using DirectShow Dump (free). This is sometimes
referred to as "freeing" the .tivo file or converting it, though it's not
really being converted at all. It's an MPEG2 file going in and coming out.
 3. Burn .mpg file to DVD using software that supports .mpg to DVD transcoding
and DVD authoring. I used DVDStyler (also free) on my PC, as my copy of Nero
6.3 supports neither feature, and Sonic MyDVD LE on my son's computer.

I did not test to see if our copy of Sonic (formerly Roxio) MyDVD will burn
straight from .tivo files. An upgraded version of it apparently will also edit
.mpg files. If I purchase NeroVision it will apparently author DVDs but I do
not know if it will transcode or edit .mpgs. I guess my point here is that
many OEM packaged copies of Nero, Sonic, etc. may have features disabled that
the full commercial package would include. YMMV.

DVDStyler was fairly straightforward and will let you create menus for your
DVD. I can't really address its ease of use or feature-set as it was late and
I did the bare minimum to get a DVD burned.

Hopefully today I'll find software to edit the commercials out, etc. before
burning. I will definitely let you guys know.

son was in Iraq the only program I could find to burn
a DVD that would play on his laptop was Roxio 9..Roxio and TIVO have some
kind of arrangement..Now I use DirectShowDump and burn it on DVD with _AVI to
DVD Video Converter Software VSO ConvertXtoDVD_
  (http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/) ..I'm pretty sure
after using DirectShowDump you
can burn with any DVD burning program you have....Gary
