On the back of the unit should be the model number, starting with
TCD. There may be some other model information on the back which
would help us know exactly which unit you have.

Which brand is it? Philips? Sony? TiVo? Something else?

You can get the user guide here:

The User Guide is the best place to start.

What is your video source? Antenna? Cable? Satellite? If you have
cable, do you have analog cable or digital cable - in other words, do
you have a cable box or not?

If you have antenna or analog cable then you can just connect that to
the RF input on the TiVo and use the internal tuner. If you have a
cable box, or satellite receiver, then you need to connect the A/V
output from the box to the A/V input on the TiVo, and you'll need the
IR blaster cables to control the box. You don't say if those are in
the cables you have - if not you'll need to buy then.
