Quick test - unplug it, stick something in the fan to stop it from
spinning, plug it back in. If you still hear it, it is the drive. If
not, it is the fan. Pull the blockage out to let the fan spin,
hearing the noise now confirms it is the fan. Better to do it this
way than to stick something into an already spinning fan.

You can also open the case which will let you better localize the
sound, and you can unplug the fan and power up to see if the sound
goes way, then do the same with the drive (with the fan connected).
But the first test is possible without cracking the case.

Once you know the source you can replace it - sites like WeaKnees.com,
DVRupgrade.com, and 9thtee.com sell replacement parts. I'm partial to
DVRupgrade.com myself, I've used them a couple of times for software
and a drive.
