It's been awhile since I last brought this subject up to the group, but I gave the Humax S2 to a son and he got a quote from Weaknees.com to fix it for 149.00 for parts, et. without knowing what's even the problem with it. My question is, is this worth it for an older machine? Would he be better off sending it to TiVo instead of Weaknees?
Also, my main concern after that is, this unit had the lifetime service with Tivo, although its a Humax. But when I purchased the new S3HD Tivo, I don't remember if I transferred the lifetime service from the Humax over to my new tivo or not, or if it was even possible. Because I think I have lifetime on the new one but I don't remember paying for it again. Would anyone know what the policy is for the lifetime service before I tell him to go ahead and get it fixed? If it doesn't carry the Service it might not be worth it to him. Thanks a lot, San Once upon a time scochrane shaped the electrons to say... > Is this true with a Humax DVR Series2 with TiVo lifetime Service? TiVo may refer the 3rd party boxes to their respective vendors - Humax, Toshiba, Pioneer. I'm not sure if TiVo provides repair service for those or just their own units. I suspect they do, it makes more sense for them to do it than for each vendor to setup their own repair group. As far as I know TiVo used to include the transfer in the OOW repair cost. The user reporting an additional charge in the thread is interesting, I'm waiting to hear if they did something odd like got a different kind of replacement unit than the one that broke. Of course, if it is just the drive you could probably pick up a new drive from DVRupgrade.com or WeaKnees.com for less than the OOW repair fee. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.GizmoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
