Maybe I'm dense, but I've gone through the documentation and can't
figure out how to get things configured.
Here's my current setup:
* I have a RedHat 7.2 server that serves as our household firewall
and file server
* I have a domain (rath.ca) that is hosted for me by a domain hosting
service provider
* each user POPs their own email off the service provider's mail
server
* all email is read on the family PC, using Outlook 2000
* I am the only geek in the house, my wife and three daughters have
no interest in maintaining whitelists, classifying spam, etc.
* the service provider does allow email to be pulled using SMTP,
although I don't use that method yet
And, here's what I am trying to accomplish:
* all email for our domain is managed through TMDA
* just the basic functions of TMDA are utilized: whitelist is
automatically maintained through the sending of mail and through
responses to TMDA challanges
* the filewall/file-server box will also serve as our MTA (using
sendmail, exim, or other suitable application); pulling email
from the service providers email server via SMTP
* email continues to be sent and read using Outlook 2000 on the
family PC
* TMDA runs in "global mode"; i.e., I don't need to set up user
accounts for every email address that might potentially receive
email
How I'm stymied:
* the instructions for setting up tmda-ofmipd in global mode
are straightforward; however, I cannot see any way of setting up
TMDA in global mode, unless I use qmail virtual domains and
VPopMail/VMailMgr --- which seems inordinately complex and leaves
me thinking that I must have missed some key step in my learning
about TMDA
Can someone shed some light on the situation?
thanks,
Christopher
