This message is not about a problem I am having, but just a topic that
I wanted to open for discussion. I figure asking this in the list may
also provide answers to other people who may be curious about the same
question...

I'm kind of curious about something and would like to ask for opinions
about this since I can see two different ways to accomplish the same
thing, but I want some feedback about what other people's preferences
are and why one option might be better/worse than the other.

I wanted to create an address that could be used so that I know that
mail will only be accepted from a particular address. Here's a real
world example... I sign up at RedHat Network to get security and
product bulletins, and I need to provide my e-mail address. I know that
these bulletins are sent from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Now I can run "tmda-address -a [EMAIL PROTECTED]" and get a
sender tagged address that I can subscribe with... but I could also
simply add [EMAIL PROTECTED] to my whitelist.

So my question is this: Why, and in which situations, is it a better
practice to use sender tagged addresses instead of whitelisting?

I can imagine that if it's for purposes of a newsgroup, then it would
make sense that people in the newsgroup could not simply send a reply
directly to me if the address they see is a sender tagged address, but
just the same if they aren't on the whitelist, they will get challenged
anyhow. Not to mention that I need to be sure that I have the ability
to ensure that messages that I post to the newsgroup are always being
posted with "X-TMDA: [EMAIL PROTECTED]". And in the event
that I forget to add that line, the message gets sent with my real
e-mail address... and people will be challenged anyhow when they send
mail there.

So... any feedback? Like I said, perhaps this might be a good thread
for the archives so that people in the future can have a source to find
answers to this scenario.

Thank you.

David
