I switched from Sendmail finally to qmail. I "thought" I followed the
instructions, but somewhere I may have made a mistake:

How did you install qmail? Did you follow the Life with Qmail instructions?

Yes, with the exception that I use Maildir

Did you apply any patches to qmail? Are you certain that the
qmail-smtpd program is handling incoming mail on your system?

No patches.
Very sure, since it says:
Hi, this is the qmail-send program at ....

The new sender gets the confirmation request, with a sender email
address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and a reply address
ronald-confirm-(number)@elmit.com.
If the new sender uses [EMAIL PROTECTED], than he gets a new confirmation
request, if he uses ronald-confirm- than he gets an error message:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)

Sendmail, for instance, doesn't understand the '-' in email addresses, so might reply that there is no such user. Qmail always understands the dash, so you shouldn't be getting that error message with qmail.

If you were using Sendmail before, you were using Procmail, too. Have
you made sure that Procmail is not being called anywhere in your new
configuration?

I used the script, which calls also Procmail. I thought, I will need it, for SpamAssassin, ....
I use now the script without procmail, restarted qmailctl stop / start and get still this error!

bye

Ronald
