This works great with qmail and vpopmail.

This is easy to do with .qmail files.  You would simply put the vacation 
instruction on the next line after your tmda-filter line.

It shouldn't cause you any problems.  I run qmail on 2 IP's and Postfix on
a third, without problems so far.
