That works if I wanted to just use user1. and user2, etc and they are aliases.
The problem is that when a user logs in to tmda-cgi they log in as [EMAIL PROTECTED].
Using files like .qmail-user1:%(User)s in the parent directory works for user1 and copies the files.

I need to be able to do a replace in the user name only if a dot exists in the username and replace those dots with :.
In many cases a regular user will install tmda but a user with a dot in the username will also use the same tmda-cgi to install tmda.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] will have completely different maildirs so the data in .qmail-user1:%(user)s would be invalid.

They are all seperate users, not aliases.
For example, [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] all are completely different users.
When the files are copied a replace would work perfectly when a dot is there but I am not sure how to do it with python.
The other data in the files is all good it is just the name of the files in the parent directory.
