When calling tmda-address from the command line, it is easy to
specify a template to build a dated or keyword address on. On the
other hand, this is not possible in outgoing filters other than
by setting the From header in message.
I know this has been discussed before, I wanted to point out another
situation when this is inconvenient.
I have an address I use
for external mail "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", since this is the one I want
people to keep in address books. In particular this is the one I want
in the From header Gmane postings, since that is what I subscribe to
mailing lists under. On the other hand, for dated addresses, I have
to send directly to the machine on my desk.
So I want
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
for mail going through tmda's outgoing filter this can
be accomplished by using [EMAIL PROTECTED] as the From header, and
using
tag from [EMAIL PROTECTED] reply-to dated=2w
in an outgoing filter file.
For mail CC'd from Gmane postings, this does not work, since I need
the From header of the Gmane posting to be [EMAIL PROTECTED]
It would be very convenient in this situation if there was a way to
specify address templates in the outgoing filter, or failing that in a
configuration variable. Right now what I do is add a dated reply to
header in the mail user agent (as discussed elsewhere in the archives
and maybe the FAQ: look for gnus) , and turn off tmda outgoing
processing using an "X-TMDA: bare" header.
Phew. That was a bit long. I had two points (other than to make
excuses for until recently sending out broken dated addresses). One is
to document my workaround, and the other is to express support to an
enhancement to the outgoing filter format. Perhaps the latter is
better discussed on tmda-workers?
