Isn't the bigger problem what to put into the C/R challenge. The current TMDA scheme of a digitally secured email addresses doesn't work, as the spammer will immediately use this to send a confirmation (assuming it is widely enough used to be worth their while) assuming their spambot is directly connected. If you put in a URL for the challenge, this brings the inherent problems of what if genuine correspondents don't have web access, and what is that URL's challenge (pictures with numbers exclude the visually impaired, and some people have even used frame like technology to get other people to type these for them with the inducement of potentially free porn). I don't think 55x messages discourage spammers from trying an address if our email servers are anything to go by :(. Mailwasher send fake bounces - damn it - very confusingly for postmasters collecting a lot of junk like me. How good is sender address verification, I'd heard it caused problems. Simon depressed as he just deleted "In-Reply-To" and "In-Response-To" filter rules from incoming as they were letting in too much spam.
