Hello,

It's been probably 2 years since I've actively
read this list. TMDA has been running quite
strongly on our mail server since late 2002,
and I've been totally consumed with other
projects.

Back in 2002 and maybe early 2003 I had a number
of great discussions with Jason and Tim Legant
(is he still around? I don't see any recent posts
by him in my KNode history...). vpopmail/vmailmgr
virtual domain support is one of the things that
came directly from those discussions
(unfortunately I didn't code any of it as my
Python skills were rather weak back then), as well
as the smtp-check-sender script.

Anyway, after all this time, I finally need to
do some mail server upgrades. We are currently
running vpopmail-5.2.1, qmailadmin, and the horrific
qadmin-tmda Perl addon for TMDA management (*heavily*
patched by me).

We're moving to the latest stable vpopmail build
and qmailadmin builds, and I really want to upgrade
to tmda-cgi (I should have never compromised on that
in the first place), and maybe have some more great
discussions with the TMDA folks. Working with TMDA
and it's developers has been one of the highlights
of my Open Source software experience, and I can't
wait to dive back into it.

So, how have you been Jason?

And how is TMDA doing these days?

Is the basic concept still widely viable? We haven't
noticed any significant problems in the last two
years, but we have less than 100 TMDA users. (We've
found that most people are repelled by the TMDA concept,
despite the fact that it WORKS, and WORKS WELL.)

Are there any major problems with the implementation
these days?

Are there any competing technologies out there that
really have potential? (I'm not real fond of Spam
Assassin, so let's not discuss that)

What is current development focused on?

What is the current developer attitude toward vpopmail
& friends? I work with a lot of open source developers,
and I know that Mr. Sam of Courier-IMAP fame in particular
has become extremely fed up with vpopmail in recent
years. Frankly, I can't blame him. Vpopmail tends to
attract the worst sort of users. Unfortunately, it still
offers me the most bang for my buck, so I'm not ready
to abandon it just yet.

Can't wait to read some responses. Thanks!
