Yes, but since the Depends: line specifically lists python, and not
python2.2, what's important is the version of the packaged on your system
called 'python'.

2.2 is not available on woody, so basically, yes, they're out of luck.  Yes,
there are ways of installing 2.2 on woody but those are best left to experts.
