I think you're oversimplifying this a tad. There are perfectly good reasons to worry about losing e-mail. My favorite example is those registrar e-mails that say something like "Your registered domain name is about to expire in 45/30/15 days." When you get automated mailings only a couple times a year, it is very easy to forget to include them in your filter, or add a filter line to cover them that has an error in it or expects the wrong from address.
